Stuck wondering what to watch live (and what to DVR and catch up on later) this fall? EW has broken it down for you, using the super scientific method of what staffers are most excited about. Follow our guide each night for your ultimate viewing pleasure … and spend the weekends catching up on everything you taped!
FALL TV VIEWING GUIDES: Monday | Tuesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday | Sunday
8 p.m. ET
Watch Live: Survivor: Cambodia—Second Chance (CBS, Sept. 23)
Why? This season marks a comeback to the long-running competition for all 20 contestants, as each competitor has previously participated – and lost – in an earlier season. Now, they’re back and hungry for that $1 million prize. But with their past experiences and desire to win (and that immunity idol twist), it’ll make for a pretty epic battle.
8:30 p.m. ET
DVR: The Goldbergs (ABC, Sept. 23)
Why? Big changes are coming to The Goldbergs. Namely: puberty. With all of those hormones and other growing pains that make the show so relatable, the comedy is also throwing it back big time in an episode this season we wouldn’t want to miss.
9 p.m. ET
Watch Live: Empire (Fox, Sept. 23)
Why? Fox’s most-talked show is back with a vengeance. The Lyon dynasty is back in action, as well as a crazy list of guest stars slated to appear (Mariah Carey, Vivica A. Fox, Kelly Rowland, to name a few). It’s the hit series you’ll want to stay up-to-date on for all the latest music, drama, and, of course, Cookie moments.
9:30 p.m. ET
DVR: Black-ish (ABC, Sept. 23)
Why? Black-ish returns for its sophomore season, tackling some hot-button issues including the use of the N-word. “[The episode] is about who has the right to say that word, and whether it should be said at all,” star Anthony Anderson told EW. This season, the series isn’t afraid to “continue to push the envelope” – and will continue to blend together both heart and hilarity to create one laugh-out-loud comedy.
10 p.m. ET
Watch Live: American Horror Story: Hotel (FX, Oct. 7)
Why? It’s time for check-in. The latest installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series is finally here, with some familiar faces (with very different looks) and several new ones – like Lady Gaga – in tow. This season has the “most disturbing scene” in the series’ history (yikes!). We’re eager to see what monsters are stalking the halls of Hotel Cortez, and with such a big cast (and plenty of twists), you’ll need to check this one out live so nothing gets spoiled.
DVR: The League /You’re the Worst (FXX, Sept. 9)
Why? So, after all that horror in your life courtesy of AHS, you’ll definitely need a healthy dose of comedy. The League, in its final season, as well as the return of You’re the Worst, is just what the doctor ordered. The League is going out with a bang, landing some hilarious guest stars for its last touchdown (like Will Forte, Ike Barinholtz, and Rob Riggle), and You’re the Worst is focusing on its four main cast members to deliver the quips. It’s a comedy block you’ll want to catch up on.
