The League’s Steve Ranazissi landed in hot water recently after admitting that he fabricated stories about his experience on Sept. 11, 2001.
The comedian told Marc Maron in 2009 that he was working in the World Trade Center for Merrill Lynch the day of the attack, and Rannazzisi said that he narrowly escaped being inside the second tower when it got hit. The incident, as he described it, inspired him to move with his wife to L.A. in order to begin his comedy career.

However, The New York Times found that not only is there no record for Rannazzissi working at Merill Lynch, the company did not even have offices in the World Trade Center at the time. Confronted by the paper, Rannazzisi admitted that he had fabricated the story.
Marc Maron’s podcast wasn’t the only place where Rannazzisi talked about his 9/11 experience, however. The comedian also talked about what happened to him that day on a radio interview with Julia Cunningham from EW Radio on Sirius XM in December 2013. Listen below. Rannazzisi did not mention Merill Lynch or his location on 9/11, but did say it inspired him to leave New York for L.A.
