After The League star Steve Rannazzisi admitted to lying about escaping from the World Trade Center on 9/11, food chain Buffalo Wild Wings has announced it has decided to pull its ad campaign featuring Rannazzisi.
“Upon careful review, we have decided to discontinue airing our current television commercials featuring Steve Rannazzisi,” Buffalo Wild Wings said in a statement released to EW.
The decision comes after a New York Times report revealed falsehoods in Rannazzisi’s story about surviving the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in New York and its impact on him to move to Los Angeles and pursue an acting career. Rannazzisi released a statement admitting to his lies, saying, “I was in Manhattan but working in a building in midtown and I was not at the Trade Center on that day. I don’t know why I said this. This was inexcusable. I am truly, truly sorry.”
FX previously released a statement after Rannizzisi’s apology saying the network believes “Steve is sincere in his apology and will do everything he can to make amends moving forward.” Comedy Central, which is set to air a comedy special from Rannizzisi on Sept. 19, stated earlier this week that the network is “currently determining how we will move forward.”
So far no plans have been announced to changes in the airing of the final season of Rannizzisi’s The League on FXX.
